Should You Migrate from Wix to Shopify?

We get a lot of inquiries from Wix users about Shopify eCommerce SEO. Though we try to remain impartial, especially since most of our clients have websites on both platforms, if we were to propose a platform for eCommerce SEO and conversion optimization, the answer is clear: Shopify.

Migrating from Wix to Shopify is a big step for eCommerce sites. They are two of the most popular eCommerce platforms on the web. Both offer a seemingly simple solution to creating and managing an online store, but we'll show you exactly why one is better than the other when it comes to SEO.

Wix versus Shopify: How do they differ?

Shopify is better for growing businesses

Wix is a popular DIY website builder that claims to have drag-and-drop functionality, but it's not perfect for every business model. On the other hand, Shopify has a lot more customization options and is a great choice for large businesses that need more control over the look and feel of their online store.

Wix is not for everyone. If your business has a lot of products or you want to grow your sales, then you should use Shopify instead because it's cheaper and offers better features like discounts, inventory management tools, and live chat support (which Wix lacks).

Shopify has more SEO capabilities

Wix has also been slammed in many communities for its lack of SEO capabilities, yet many users have reported results when it comes to ranking their sites on search engines such as Google or Bing.

Nevertheless, if you're searching for something with more optimization capabilities than Wix provides, you should explore something else, such as Shopify, which is already better optimized from the start. This implies it will appear higher in search results than web pages created with Wix would ordinarily appear without any additional work.

Shopify has more template designs and customization capabilities

Shopify and Wix both provide excellent e-commerce options for entrepreneurs, with easy-to-use platforms, excellent support, and a multitude of features. However, there are differences between the two platforms in terms of design freedom, customization, and cost.

Shopify has much more template designs, better customization features, and a wealth of additional options for your online business than Wix.

Shopify also offers additional template choices and customization options. Shopify offers thousands of free and premium, paid themes in a variety of design styles and for a wide range of industries. Each one is easily adjustable, with pricier versions giving even more options. Wix, on the other hand, provides over 800 templates, just 114 of which are e-commerce-specific. Wix is cheaper but…

Shopify is a dedicated e-commerce platform with many advanced features, a larger app store, and more third-party integrations. It’s also more expensive than Wix, beginning at $29 per month (compared to $23 per month with Wix). However, the price includes the cost of hosting, so you don’t have to pay extra for that like you do with Wix.

While Shopify subscriptions are more pricey than Wix plans, they provide more advanced capabilities and scalability. There are also no hidden charges. Additionally, if you use Shopify Payments as your payment processor, Shopify does not impose transaction fees. A small transaction fee may be charged if you use a third-party payment processor.

One has more payment options

Shopify offers a broader variety of payment options. Shopify has connected with most, if not all, major payment systems and wallets, allowing for a really quick store setup. As a result, your customers will have more options when it comes to purchasing from your store. Additionally, Shopify Payments, the company's own payment system, is available for instant use.

While Wix accepts the most popular payment methods, it does not support Amazon Pay and Apple Pay. Additionally, there isn't a payment mechanism built within the platform. As a result, Shopify takes the cake when it comes to payment choices.

Shopify has a gigantic app store.

In addition to a wide array of features, Shopify comes with a powerful app store that gives you access to more than 2,200 third-party apps. These apps help you extend the functionality of your eCommerce store in a variety of ways.

If you’re looking for a way to automate certain tasks or add certain functionalities to your online store, chances are you’ll find an appropriate app in Shopify’s app store.

On the other hand, Wix doesn’t have nearly as many apps as Shopify. While they claim to have over 260 third-party apps, many of them aren’t targeted for eCommerce stores specifically. This means that you may need to filter out some apps before you can find one that works for your particular store and purpose.

In addition, none of these third-party apps are developed by Wix itself - they are all external applications that have been integrated into the platform. And while this may not be a bad thing, it does mean that Wix cannot guarantee the quality or function of these apps.

Shopify has better inventory management.

Inventory management is only one of several things that distinguish Shopify from Wix when it comes to eCommerce capabilities. The account dashboard can be used to manage your stocks instead of having to use an outside app. All of your available stocks, items that have been sold, and items out of stock can be seen.

Wix, on the other hand, will require you to install an extra solution or connect your store to an outside platform to keep track of your inventories. In the end, Shopify is the best choice for businesses of all sizes because it makes it simple to keep track of product inventory. It also gives you access to hundreds of Shopify applications for extensive inventory management that you can add to your store.

Should you make the move?

If you are a growing company, you need a platform that can handle it.

Wix, while good in the very early stages of setting up an online eCommerce store, has some major limitations. It can be difficult to scale your business and add new features when you need to compete with other stores.

If you’re not well-versed with coding.

There are three different types of people who should consider Shopify. The first type is someone who wants an easy-to-set-up store and does not want to deal with installing and configuring WordPress or a traditional e-commerce platform like Magento.

The second type of person who should consider using Shopify is someone who doesn’t know how to code. If you’re not well-versed with coding, then why make things harder for yourself? Focus on the business instead and let Shopify handle everything else.

The third type of person who should consider using Shopify is anyone who has tried building a Wix site before but just isn’t happy with the results they are getting or is frustrated with updating.

If you're looking for an eCommerce platform that's easy to use.

Shopify is incredibly user-friendly. Even if you have no experience building or managing a website, you'll find it easy to navigate the dashboard and customize your online store. If you need extra help, Shopify offers free tutorials, live chat support, email support, and phone support. On top of that, there are tons of resources available online that can teach you how to use the platform as well as grow your business on Shopify (like our very own blog).

If you need more features and tools for marketing, inventory management, etc.

If you want to be able to leverage more features and tools for marketing, inventory management, order fulfillment, and reporting, then Shopify may be the solution for you. Some of these features include:

Marketing: You can run targeted email campaigns, create gift cards and generate discount codes.

Inventory Management: You can manage multiple locations, transfer products between locations, and see real-time inventory updates.

Order Fulfillment: You can connect your store with third-party fulfillment partners like Shipwire or Amazon Fulfillment.

Reporting: You can use reports to analyze sales by traffic source, product, or customer.

If you're looking for a wider selection of payment options.

You'll want to have this if you want to make things easier for your customers and increase your conversion rate.

Because Shopify provides more payment methods than Wix, customers don't have to go far to get the option they want.  In addition, Shopify is able to accept payment via Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Consumers are more likely to purchase goods and services using mobile devices than at any other point in time. Don't take this for granted if you have a lot of mobile customers; it's a crucial component in increasing your average order value and income per customer.


While Wix gets a lot of attention for its low price and ease of use, Shopify has become the go-to eCommerce solution for many serious entrepreneurs.

In terms of eCommerce capabilities, Shopify is the way to go with its powerful features for creating an online store and accepting payments seamlessly. But this comes at a cost. Shopify charges a monthly fee depending on the plan you choose, while Wix is free until you want to connect your domain name or use some advanced e-commerce functions.

Ultimately, if you’re looking to create a small website with basic e-commerce capabilities and don’t want to spend anything initially, then Wix is the best option for you. But if your online shop is going to grow rapidly in the future and you want to have more control over its future development, then Shopify would be a better choice!
